Rates & Insurance

  • $100-130 per session. Rate is dependent on clinician's specialty and experience.

  • Yes!

We are in network with Aetna, Anthem/Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and Colorado Medicaid.

We would recommend calling your insurance company to confirm if your insurance policy has OON benefits for mental health services.

In addition, you can choose to work with us privately and not use insurance. In that case our rates are $100-$130 per session depending on the clinician you work with.

  • Unfortunately, Exploration Counseling does NOT bill insurance for couples counseling. Insurance companies do not recognize the benefits or necessity of couples therapy and compensate accordingly for that service. This makes it difficult to recruit and maintain high-quality clinicians. Also, in order to seek reimbursement for services from insurance, one partner must be identified as the “client” and receive a clinical diagnosis. This requirement can make true couples therapy interventions difficult and goes against our belief about the benefits of couples’ work.

  • Our in-person office is located at 321 W. Henrietta Ave in Woodland Park, Colorado. It’s the office behind Cafe Leo.

  • Yes! Many of our clients choose to do online counseling for convenience and accessibility. All of our clinicians provide online counseling.

  • Each of our clinicians have varying hours. We have availability Mon-Fri and limited evening appointments. We do not have open office hours on weekends.

  • Each session usually lasts 50-55 minutes. We are considerate of your time and work very hard to keep to our schedule.

  • You can schedule an initial appointment by filling out our contact page or by calling our office at 719-602-5634.

  • We require a 24-hour notice for all cancellations. We reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee for any late cancellations or no-shows.

  • We want our new client process to be simple. There is paperwork that needs to be filled out prior to your first appointment, but we attempt to keep it minimal. You can expect to sign our consent forms and practice policies, fill out your personal information and insurance information, and complete a brief form sharing why you are seeking therapy and how we can best help you.

  • Your first session will be a little bit of a “get to know each other” session. Your clinician will ask you more questions than normal, and you will be encouraged to ask any questions you have as well. We understand that talking about personal things can be challenging, so we want you to be as open as you are comfortable at that time. You should not feel pressured or pushed to discuss anything. Our hope is that therapy becomes a place you feel comfortable and look forward to.

  • We love working with people who recognize they are not living their life quite the way they want to, and are ready to make some changes! This may be a mother feeling like she’s drowning in responsibilities or a young adult trying to adjust to expectations of living on his/her own.

  • We do not look at our clients as a “diagnosis” but instead as an individual who may be struggling and needs to make some changes. While there may be clinically significant symptoms contributing to your struggles, there is also hope for improvement. All of our clinicians are trained in evidence-based (meaning research shows it works) interventions that can help you move in the direction of living a life you are proud of.

  • Great question. There is no one-size-fits-all to therapy. Some clients come to us with a very specific issue that they feel they have worked through in a few sessions. Others want to dive deeper into learning about themselves and how they view the world, which can take longer. We never tell someone how long they have to commit to therapy, but we do recommend that you be willing to give therapy 4-6 sessions.

  • You may be asked to take some time to think about or journal on certain topics, or encouraged to try a new communication skill or relaxation technique. You will not be made to do lots of worksheets and you should never feel that you are coming to therapy “unprepared” (this isn’t school!). All of our suggestions should be treated like personal experiments- try our some new ideas or techniques and see what works best for you.

  • We encourage weekly to bi-weekly sessions, depending on severity and personal availability. We understand that you are busy, so we we strive to make therapy accessible. We will never require you to attend a certain number or times, but we do know that consistency (especially at first) is shown to produce better outcomes.

  • I love to be outside! Sometimes it’s difficult to get outdoors, but I think I’m happiest in nature. I also love to read (and collect good books) and have read about 50 books so far this year. A hammock or a big blanket and a good book outside with a warm cup of coffee- that’s my idea of a perfect day.

  • You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
